# A guest blog post from Verbal Ink on Google Translate

Verbal Ink is renowned for its quality transcription, translation, and writing services. They have an eclectic team, a worthy philosophy and have worked to provide transcription, translation, and writing projects for - as they put it - "College student or CEO, Main Street business or megachurch, investigative journalist or Ivy League researcher." Their clientele includes names such as HBO, The New York Times, Yale University, and Mayo Clinic.

# Woman vs. Machine: Adriana, the professional human translator, against Google Translate, the virtual behemoth
Every time you browse the web, you will most likely run into web pages that are in a different language. In most cases, people resort to Google translate in order to get the meaning of the text in a language they are familiar with. Google Translate has been a work in progress over the past couple of years and when it comes to translating phrases and paragraphs from one language to another, how close would it get to a professional human translator?
Research carried out by Verbal Ink points towards huge shortcomings in the Google translate service, which makes it a good option for certain situations but not recommended for professional translations. If you are looking to have professional work done, Google Translate will not give you accurate results. From the study, it was observed that Google Translate tends to have a fractured syntax and overly literal translations for some words.
Google Translate also tends to transcribe words directly in the audio transcription. This is relatively better than average and comes in handy when you want to get the overall gist of a phrase without worrying about its accuracy and syntax. Google translate, when compared to a human translator, tends to be less accurate when it comes to professional translation. Disjointed sentences by the Translation service makes it a poor choice when you are trying to develop content for a web page for instance, since readers would give up on content that they are unable to understand. So, when would a person decide to go to Google Translate and when would a human translator be the better choice?
Google Translate is the default choice for translating road signs when you are traveling internationally for instance. It would come in handy when you are in a restaurant that has everything in a different language. Even though not completely accurate, Google Translate gives you a general idea of what the words in the other language mean thus giving you the ability to make a choice quickly. The translation service by Google also comes in useful when you are skimming websites on the Internet which are in a foreign language.
A human translator, on the other hand, comes in useful when you are looking to translate business documents, public facing content and any other documents that require a high level of accuracy in translation such as legal and financial documents. The research by Verbal Ink has revealed a very important fact about Google Translate, accuracy is not a strong point for the search giant's translation service.
