FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 9, 2020

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 9, 2020 - Canopy Innovations, Inc. is proud to announce the beta launch of Canopy Learn 2.0 on March 16, 2020, amid the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the program is to empower frontline healthcare providers to augment their Medical Spanish skill sets so that they may serve more patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).

The improved National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded Medical Spanish training program houses new features for users, including a free-of-charge Infectious Disease Medical Spanish module and an intensive 40-hour Medical English curriculum for medical students and healthcare professionals alike. Users have the opportunity to learn and practice medical terminology, cultural competency skills, and general English grammar and mechanics through various multimedia modules across all three levels of each course.

The Canopy Learn 2.0 platform includes a brand new UI/UX design for all users with a significantly improved mobile-friendly navigation applied to each interactive exercise. This allows users more flexibility in their educational experience, at higher speed and with flash removal for improved security.

The most popular interactive learning exercise includes the platform’s custom-produced medical telenovela drama series, embedded in each lesson to showcase the language and cultural skills that the learners have just learned. Additionally, users have the opportunity to engage with course content through mock patient-provider diagnosis dialogues in each lesson.

The updated Canopy Learn 2.0 platform retains many of the favorite learning components of the older 1.0 version, which has been used by more than 100,000 learners in the past five years. The upgraded platform contains the same Medical Spanish curriculum with research-validated pedagogy known as Authentic Context Tutoring (ACT). ACT pedagogy supports the acquisition of new linguistic and cultural knowledge with a two-fold design that incorporates both traditional instruction and practical application.

Canopy Learn 2.0 highlights the shared goal among our team and frontline healthcare professionals: to better serve the often neglected Spanish-speaking community, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is reflected in the consistent addition of features released to the Canopy Learn 2.0 platform nearly every week, 80 percent of which are requested by Canopy learners and valued partners.
